		<description>This shouldn&#039;t be news to anyone but economists.  Anyone who has been paying reasonable attention since 1978 could see the fundamental contradiction of neoliberalism; on the one hand, it sought to cut wages for the poorest 2/3 of the population while, at the same time, expected consumer spending to replace production of goods as the motor of the economy.
